Eden Primary School Growing Club
The growing boxes at Eden Primary School were created and installed by Mr Mark Diamond, a parent of children who attend the school. A competition was then held for all pupils from P1 to P7 to design the plot, with two growing areas designated for flowers and two for vegetables. The winning designs were submitted by Bethany Taggart (P7), Matthew Reith (P5), Ben Heggarty (P2) and Abbie McCormick (P1) who chose to incorporate a host of vegetables including carrots, radishes, peas, beans, potatoes, cabbage, parsnips, broccoli and beetroot, and a range of colourful flowers such as sunflowers, lobelia and dahlia. Following the design phase the children have taken great delight in preparing and cultivating the growing boxes and in watching nature at work. Eden Primary wishes to thank Carrickfergus Borough Council for their generous grant which has enabled the school to create this much-valued, outdoor, learning experience.
